(14 CFR § 65.77)
To qualify for FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant certification through experience, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Applicants must provide documented hands-on practical experience of at least 18 months for either the Airframe or Powerplant rating.
Applicants seeking both ratings concurrently must provide approximately 30 months of documented practical experience working on both airframe and powerplant systems.
Applicants must provide verifiable documentation of experience, which may include:
-
Employment verification letters
-
Maintenance records or logbooks
-
Military or civilian training records
-
Foreign maintenance certifications or licenses
-
Holding a foreign aircraft maintenance license or certification does not automatically grant FAA certification. However, foreign licenses and experience may be used to help document and validate eligibility for FAA certification under FAA regulations.
